How to Take Herbal Laxatives
October 30, 2009 on 3:10 pm | By admin | In Health | 116 CommentsHerbal laxatives are a popular solution to cases of stubborn or chronic constipation, and they can come in a variety of forms ranging from drinks to capsules. It is important that the instructions are followed exactly when you take such laxatives because it is possible for your digestive system to become dependent on them and fail to produce proper bowel movements without them.
Some laxatives are available as syrups, and other as pills. Much depends on their mode of action. Psyllium, for example, can come as a powder and in capsule form, while other forms of herbs can be taken as a tea. They can also take time to work, so don’t expect instant results. In cases of chronic constipation it can take over a day or more, particularly if you are using a bulking laxative fiber such as Psyllium husk. Whatever form of herbal laxative you are taking, use it as directed and keep in mind that how it works depends on the individual.
Bulking fiber laxatives can be taken daily but herbal stimulating laxatives should be limited in use to no more than a few days then discontinue use. To find a good quality laxative stop in to your local or internet health food store. Remember to always look for name brands to ensure quality and purity of the laxative you choose.
