I have some shirts that I have never even wore, but continue to keep around because I think they are nice. However, I have a few shirts that I have had forever and for good reason. These shirts are like foundations of my wardrobe. When I get a new pair of pants I think of these shirts are the reason to get or not get the new pair of slacks.
